Genadendal Heritage, Conservation and Restoration

Moravian Mission Station, Western Cape.

The practice has been doing work on the Moravian mission settlements in the Western Cape since 1985. Within an interest in preserving the heritage of these important historical places, efforts have included the recording of buildings and settlements as well as the restoration of selected buildings, as and when funding was available. Work has varied in scale from the full restoration of the Mill wheel in Elim to the restoration of important buildings on the mission nuclei. From 2003 until 2007 in collaboration with HWC and HGIS, restoration work of vernacular housing and the nucleus (or Werf) buildings were undertaken in Genadendal.
