A memorial park has been designed and constructed along the old Horstley Street in District Six.

 

Horstley was one of the streets that had remained most intact after demolitions, where the foundations of houses can still be found, the sandstone curbstones still exist and the cobblestone road surface is more or less in tact. 

 

The memorial park idea was to clean up and expose the foundations, and use the rubble to create a mound on the western side of the street, so that while standing in Horstley street the user's view of the Cape Technikon is blocked, and the user is allowed to contemplate the memory of what was.
